Los Angeles High School will be holding its annual Open House on Thursday, April 20, 2017, showcasing a variety of programs. Open House will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Current families, prospective families, alumni, and community members are welcome and encouraged to attend and take part in what promises to be a fun and informative evening at Los Angeles’ most historic high school. A highlight of the evening will be an ICAP Art Show and the premier exhibit of the LA High Museum by the new museum studies class, in the Ray Bradbury Library on campus.
Environmental Art and Museum Studies are part of the burgeoning Integrated Community Arts Pathway (ICAP) at LA High. Designed to expose students to a variety of art mediums, ICAP’s foundation relies upon student interaction with the greater arts community and the interweaving of the Arts throughout the Core Curriculum. A special presentation to the Museum by alumni, of two large LAHS banners from 1948, discovered at a local estate sale, will take place at 6:45 pm in the library. In addition, the new space designated to become the LA High Courtroom for Teen Court will be revealed. Other highlights will include the LA High parent center, academics, athletics and cheer, a science fair, robotics, culinary arts, band, drama and more!
The Open House event will be setting the stage for a grand Los Angeles High School Centennial Celebration and fundraiser, scheduled for October 20th and 21st of this year. The school, originally founded downtown in 1873, moved to its current location in 1917. “The Harrison Trust Presents – A Roman Renaissance, Los Angeles High School Centennial” – will celebrate 100 Years serving the Olympic and Rimpau community and the beginning of a powerful new direction for the school.
Finally, this event will celebrate LA High’s double digit (10.5%) increase in their graduation rate, up to 77.5%
